Natures Revelries III...Raku Tile... One of My New Design Series

I had so much fun creating this tile. I have been on a three dimensional kick lately. I did not know when I sat down to work what this would turn out to be.

When I start a project, I play around with my textures and the clay seems to tell me what it wants to be. I love the feel of clay and work with wetter clay than most of my pottery friends. It eliminates the need to slip and score, although I do use a special mixture called Magic Water that is mostly vinegar and water to give every addition extra adhesion.

Some of the additions are made from my own molds, others from store bought molds. I always try to alter the clay pulls from the commercial molds to make them my own. Other additions, like the moth are hand rolled coils and bead forms put together.

I think I like this new series of tiles and hope to create more of them in the future. There are a couple in my shop from this series as well as several from a new marine biology series I am working on.

I get most of my inspiration from the Ernst Haeckle images. I love looking at those images! When I look at them in extreme close up , it is like looking into an alien world. I am amazed at the diversity of life on this planet we live on.

I try to stay open minded...but there is so much to learn and see...that always I feel in the dark:) What a wonder this planet is!
